WhatsNext is a tracker for movies, TV, books, and games. It's a place to keep track of what you want to get to, share it with people you trust, and remember what you thought when you got there.
The best part is what happens when a friend sends you something. It lands in your list with their note attached, and the note stays on the card for good. Years later you can still see who sent you that book and what they said about it. That history is what this whole thing is for.
There are no ads and no algorithm deciding what you see. Everything in your list is there because you put it there or because a friend sent it to you.
What you can do
- Track what you want to watch, read, or play. Search movies, TV, books, and games in one place, and the cover art and details fill in automatically.
- Mark things as finished. Rate them, jot down what you thought, and remember when you got to them.
- Send recommendations to friends with a personal note. The note isn't optional, because it's the part your friend will remember.
- See what your friends are into. Browse their libraries and see what they thought of the things they finished.
Who made this
Hi, I'm Robin. I built WhatsNext because my friends and I were already trading recommendations over text and losing track of all of them. It's just me working on it: Next.js, Supabase, and Vercel, with TMDB, Open Library, Google Books, and IGDB filling in the catalog. For now it's invite-only, friends and friends of friends, while I make sure everything holds up. If you got an invite, it's because someone here wanted to share their list with you.
Credits
WhatsNext doesn't have its own catalog of everything ever made. It borrows one. These are the sources that fill in the covers, titles, and details when you search.
- TMDB. Movies and TV, including cover art and where things are streaming.This product uses the TMDB API but is not endorsed or certified by TMDB.
- JustWatch. The streaming availability shown on movie and TV cards, provided through TMDB.
- Open Library. Book details, covers, and ISBN lookups.
- Google Books. Book search.
- IGDB. Games, including cover art.
- Apple. Podcasts and music, via the iTunes Search API.
